Prov’l Gov’t Sends Family Food Packs, Kitchen and Sleeping Kits to Flood-hit Sagay

The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental extended food and non-food assistance Tuesday to families in Sagay City affected by the recent flooding, as part of its continued augmentation of relief goods to component cities and municipalities.
The assistance included 600 family packs, 120 kitchen kits, and 102 sleeping kits.
The distribution was facilitated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, ensuring timely support reached those in need.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the province is prepared to provide additional aid should the need arise, noting that Sagay City’s local government had already extended initial assistance to evacuees.
The latest data from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) showed that 27 houses were totally destroyed and seven were partially damaged due to the flooding in the city.
Gov. Lacson expressed hope that concerned agencies will work with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to repair roads damaged by the floods.
He said the overall impact on local government units is manageable, but sections of the national highway including those in Toboso town need urgent attention, similar to recent repair works in Don Salvador Benedicto.
Initial reports also indicate that multiple footbridges were destroyed, matching infrastructure damage caused by Typhoon Tino in prior months.
Infrastructure damage has cut off access to essential services, with destroyed footbridges and roads in Calatrava and Toboso.
Sections of the national highway – including those in Toboso town – require immediate intervention from the DPWH, similar to the repair work recently completed in Don Salvador Benedicto, he pointed out.* (W/ Capitol PIO and PNV)
