Mayor Greg Gasataya has ordered a pre-emptive evacuation for residents in flood-prone areas as Tropical Storm Signal No. 2 has been hoisted earlier over the city due to Typhoon Tino.

During a press conference today, November 3, the mayor said that coastal barangays susceptible to flooding during heavy rains were told to prepare.

Areas prone to flooding during previous heavy rains in the city include Barangays Banago, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, Sum-ag, Tangub, as well as Barangays 1, 2, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 35, Mandalagan, Bata, and Villamonte.

Gasataya appealed to the public to stay home if they have no important activities and to heed the pre-emptive evacuation calls.

He also announced that as of 12 noon, sea travel has been suspended, while air travel continues.

The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) – Bacolod, led by Chief Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, has assured food provisions for those affected.

She said DSSD personnel have been posted in schools, barangays, and other evacuation centers.

City Engineer Loben Rafael Ceballos has responded to requests to dredge perennially flooded areas in the city and has readied the department’s vehicles for rescue and mobility purposes.* (Lorenzo Lambatin Jr. / NDB)
