4th Mayor Rene Gustilo Cup Chess Tournament Winners Awarded

The San Carlos Negros Chess Club (SCNCC) awarded the winners of The Negros Chess Encounter (Tatluhan) for the 4th Mayor Rene Gustilo Cup Chess Tournament on Oct. 5, at Park Marina Function Hall.

The 2-day event is part of the lineup of sporting activities for the 33rd Pintaflores Festival in November, where winners received medals, trophies and cash prizes ranging from ₱1,000 to ₱30,000.

3rd placer- Toledo Chess Hustlers
4th placer- Mona Lisa
5th placer- Richessmasters
6th placer- Taga Paticui
7th placer- Flood Control Team
8th placer- RBT Fighters (PWD)
9th placer- Maestro de ajedrez
10th placer- Panabo (PWD)
Top Under 14- Pawn of Progress
Top PWD- RBT Fighters (PWD)

Board Champions- Mona Lisa, Victorias Warriors, and Sagay Warriors

SCNCC President Henry Silva said they hold the tournament every year to promote chess, especially among the youth, and to help develop their discipline, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. He shared that this year’s tournament featured the three-player team format, a team-based setup where three players work together on the same side against another team of three.

He added that aside from promoting the sport, it also helps boost the city’s tourism through the participation of players coming from different places; invited chess enthusiasts to join next year’s tournament and thanked the local government for their efforts and continued support for the city’s sporting activities.
