Giant Puppets Make Their Grand Return in MassKara 2025

The streets of Bacolod will soon be filled with towering smiles and vibrant stories as the Giant Puppets return to the MassKara Festival. A fresh highlight this year is the launch of the 1st MassKara Mask-Higante Puppets Competition 2025, an exciting addition designed to bring out the artistry and creativity of Bacolodnons across the city’s barangays.

Theme: “Toto kag Inday sa MassKara”

Each entry must feature a giant puppet pair portraying everyday slices of Bacolodnon life during the festival — from its humor and resilience to its warmth and community spirit — all brought to life through the iconic MassKara smile.

The competition is open to groups of 6–10 artists and designers, aged 18 and above, who are bona fide residents of Bacolod City. Only the first 15 qualified applicants will be accepted as official contestants.

Each group must also prepare a two-minute music track to accompany their final performance at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC).

This new event reflects the vision of Mayor Greg Gasataya: to create platforms that inspire local artists from various barangays, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills and reimagine MassKara traditions through fresh, community-driven expressions.

Early submission is strongly encouraged, as limited slots are expected to fill quickly.

With the return of the higantes, MassKara Festival 2025 promises not only grand revelries but also a celebration of grassroots artistry and the enduring creativity of the City of Smiles.
