Masaligan Army Battalion Strengthens Peace, Compassion, Bayanihan

Extends support to family affected by armed conflict
ESCALANTE CITY, Negros Occidental — Staying true to its commitment to peace, reconciliation, and community development, the 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion facilitated the turnover of construction materials to Mrs. Susan Caramihan, widow of the late Joe Caramihan, who tragically lost his life in an armed conflict in February 2024 at Brgy. Pinapugasan, Escalante.
This initiative was made possible through the generosity of the Felix Yusay Foundation, represented by Ms. Sharon Jornadal, in partnership with the local government unit of Escalante City and the Barangay Council of Brgy. Pinapugasan headed by Brgy. Captain Edgar Rapana. The act stands as a true manifestation of Bayanihan — a collective effort to uplift and support families affected by conflict, and violence of the Communist Terrorist Group.
The 79IB underscored that this endeavor goes beyond the simple turnover of construction materials. It is a tangible expression of empathy, solidarity, and the spirit of Bayanihan, providing affected families with hope and the means to heal, recover, and move forward.
“In the 79IB, we believe that true victory is not only measured by the battles we win, but also by the hearts we heal and the lives we help rebuild. This is also a reminder to our people that nothing good will ever come from armed struggle — only pain, loss, and broken families,” said Lt. Col. Eric B. Alfonso, INF (GSC) PA, Acting Commanding Officer of the 79IB.
This gesture is part of the battalion’s broader mission to foster peace and development across Northern Negros. By turning conflict into compassion, and by cultivating Bayanihan that unites communities and transforms divides into bridges of understanding, the 79IB continues to strengthen the foundation of lasting peace, the 79th IB said in a statement.*
