Kabankalan mayor eyes airport completion, establishment of seaport

The completion of the city airport, the establishment of a port and economic zone are among major focuses of Mayor Benjie Miranda in his second term as local chief executive, along with sourcing of funds for a major flood control project.
Miranda told newsmen Saturday that he will exert more efforts for the construction of various airport infrastructures and facilities that will finally complete the Kabankalan City Airport.
He said that with the runway already finished which he described to be longer than that of Sibulan airport in Dumaguete City, he will follow up previous commitments of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, the Department of Transportation, and other concerned agencies that two years gave him assurance regarding the completion of the airport.
Mayor Miranda has acknowledged that the airport project was started during the previous administration notably under former Mayor Isidro Zayco.
“This time I will be the one to exert more efforts for the airport project. I will no longer seek the help of others. Si mayor na gid matinguha… Indi na ko da magsalig da sa iban nga wala man gabulig…,” he said, adding that he was made to understand that the airport project should have been completed before his second term.
In the same interview at the sideline of the 28th Charter Day celebration of Kabankalan Saturday afternoon, the mayor is also eyeing the establishment of a seaport along with establishing an economic zone.
He added that he is also working hard for the implementation of a major flood control project in Kabankalan. He said that he is still looking for funds through loans for the project that will solve the problem of the city against flooding, saying that the city has to secure loan and not rely alone on the support of the national government to ensure the entire flood control project is completed.* (APT)
