MassKara Comes Home: “Gugma” Named New Organizer of MassKara Fest
A new chapter begins for Bacolod’s most iconic celebration.

The Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. has been officially designated by the Bacolod City LGU as the new organizer of the MassKara Festival, signaling a vibrant return to its roots—celebrating the people, culture, and spirit of Bacolod through Gugma.
At the heart of this newly formed foundation is the powerful Hiligaynon word “GUGMA”—love. But this is not just symbolic love; it is love in action—expressed through service, unity, and cultural pride. It’s a vision that aligns with Mayor Greg Gasataya’s commitment to bring MassKara back to the people—where it truly belongs.
Leading this renewed movement is Rodney Mitz Ascalon, serving as both Foundation President and Festival Director.
“Gugma is more than love. It’s service. It’s sacrifice. It’s giving without asking in return. That’s what this foundation stands for—and what this year’s MassKara will reflect,” Ascalon said.
The core team includes:
• Atty. Hannah Lea Tañoso Dela Torre, Board of Director, Corporate Secretary and Legal Affairs Head, providing legal guidance and ensuring that all operations are grounded in integrity and compliance.
• Joanna Angelica Ortillo, Board of Director, Foundation Treasurer, spearheading marketing and community engagement strategies.
• Edsel G. Prado, Board of Director, in charge of accounting and finance, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
• Christine Panes-Ceraspe, Board of Director, overseeing administration and secretariat operations to streamline the foundation’s internal coordination.
With “unity through love” as its core, MassKara 2025 is shaping up to be a homegrown celebration powered by grassroots collaboration.
As preparations ramp up, the foundation invites Bacolodnons to take part—not just as spectators, but as co-creators of a festival that reflects the true heartbeat of the City of Smiles.
MassKara 2025 is not just a return to form—it’s a return to heart.*
