Negrense IP Students Receive P1.1M Educational Assistance

Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson led the distribution of educational assistance amounting to P1.1 million to 166 Indigenous Peoples (IP) students from the towns of Isabela, Binalbagan, and Himamaylan City July 22.

Each beneficiary, composed of elementary and high school students, received P6,750 to cover their school allowance for a period of nine months.

The financial aid falls under the Educational Assistance for IP’s Basic Education (EAIBE) program, a special scholarship category managed by the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division (NOSPD).

Distribution ceremonies were held in the respective local government units attended by Fifth District Board Member Rita Gatuslao, chair of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education; Isabela Mayor Miguel Yulo and Vice Mayor Renato Malabor Jr.; Binalbagan Mayor Emmanuel Aranda; NOSP Head Karen Dinsay; Milina Jeruta of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) – Negros Occidental; and Ati Leader Teresita Sinceda, among others.

Gov. Lacson encouraged the young IP scholars to stay focused on their education and said he believes in their strength and potential.
With the right support and opportunities, he said, they can achieve their dreams and help improve their communities.*
