Prov’l Gov’t Extends Aid to Kin of OFW Killed in Israel

July 14, 2025

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday assured that the provincial government will extend financial assistance to the family of a Negrense caregiver who died from severe injuries in the Iranian missile attack in Israel on June 15.

Leah Mosquera’s death was confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday after her sister, who is also an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Israel, relayed the information.

“We extend our condolences to the family of Leah Mosquera. It’s unfortunate. Reports said that she really fought for her life, but I guess the injury that she sustained was too much for her,” Lacson said in an interview.

Karen Dinsay, head of the Public Employment Service Office, said the province will provide PHP190,000 in financial assistance to the Mosquera family through the OFW Help Desk.

Dinsay said it is the same amount they extended to the family of Loreta Alacre, the Negrense caregiver from Cadiz City who was killed during the Hamas attacks in Israel in October 2023.

Mosquera, who is from Barangay Guintorilan, San Enrique town, was among the casualties when a missile struck a residential building in Rehovot, south of Tel Aviv.

According to the DFA, the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv is coordinating with authorities for the immediate repatriation of Mosquera’s remains.* (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
