9 Bago villages affected by Saturday’s Kanlaon ashfall

Nine barangays in Bago City were affected by the ashfall from Kanlaon volcano on Saturday.

Dr. Merijene Ortizo, head of the Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the affected were Brgys. Mailum, Ilijan, Dulao, Ma-ao, Binubuhan, Abuanan, Antipuluan, Tabunan, and Bacong.

Ortizo said the most affected was the spring water in Brgy. Mailum, adding that the water from the barangay is not safe anymore safe for drinking.

She said that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Bago CDRMMO sent water tankers to ration drinking water to the affected residents.

The city government also distributed face masks so the residents will not enhale ash and the strong sulfur smell, she also said.* (EYA)
