Mt. Kanlaon Eruption Response: WASH Operations Update
On February 7, 2025, the Philippine Red Cross continued its humanitarian efforts in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, ensuring clean water access for evacuees. A total of 64,000 liters of clean water was distributed, benefiting 4,194 individuals and 1,366 families across various evacuation centers.
Water Production: 86,000 liters produced at the La Castellana Municipal Evacuation Center
Water Distribution Sites:
La Castellana Municipal Evacuation Center – 18,000L (509 individuals, 160 families)
La Castellana South Elementary School EC – 9,000L (1,196 individuals, 402 families)
La Castellana Junior High EC – 18,000L (1,161 individuals, 371 families)
La Castellana Senior High EC – 5,000L (176 individuals, 56 families)
Don Felix Robles ES EC – 7,000L (650 individuals, 215 families)
Saint Vincent EC – 7,000L (502 individuals, 162 families)
Hygiene Promotion: Conducted at La Castellana Municipal Evacuation Center (60 individuals reached)
Despite challenges such as decreased water source productivity and the need for additional equipment, the team successfully distributed water, conducted hygiene awareness sessions, backwashed the SCAN machine, and organized RC143 volunteers to strengthen community engagement.
