Gov’t aid to Kanlaon-affected families reach P198M

The national government and its local counterparts have extended PHP198 million worth of assistance to families affected by Mt. Kanlaon’s ongoing restiveness, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

The amount includes PHP127.3 million for Central Visayas and PHP70.7 million for Western Visayas, according to the disaster response body’s latest report.

A total of 10,053 families from the two regions benefited from this assistance — 7,552 families in Western Visayas and 2,501 families in Central Visayas.

The aid provided includes family food packs, hygiene and sleeping kits, financial assistance, filtration and generator sets.

A total of 12,286 families in 27 villages in the two regions have been affected.

As of posting, 3,107 families are sheltering in 23 evacuation centers while another 2,662 families are being aided outside.* (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
