Bacolod gov’t saves big on gas expenses
Under the leadership of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” B. Benitez, Bacolod City continues to lead with service innovation and fiscal responsibility through its MABB Cab initiative, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and speed of city operations.
The Bacolod City Public Information Office (BCD PIO) bared Thursday that Internal Audit Services Department Head II Ray V. Agpangan reported that the city spent only Php 9.9 million out of a total Php 25.5 million allocated for fuel expenses in 2024. In comparison, fuel expenses for 2023 amounted to Php 16.3 million.
“This is taxpayers’ money, so they have the right to know about these matters,” Agpangan was quoted by the BCD PIO.
To further strengthen its move against the improper use of public funds, Mayor Benitez has implemented a stricter policy on fuel usage with the introduction of fleet cards in 2024 which are designed to prevent unauthorized fuel transactions.
With significant savings on fuel, Bacolod not only demonstrated its commitment to responsible budgeting and transparency, but also ensures that the funds will be carefully managed by the City Budget Office for future projects for the continued progress of the city, BCD PIO added.*
