SRA Pablo Luis Azcona

The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) warned the public against entertaining solicitations using its name or that of its administrator Pablo Luis Azcona.

Azcona said during Thursday’s media briefing said that two incidents have been reported to the police after his name was used to solicit money.

The first incident was reported at the Bacolod Police Station 8 on November 27, alleging that an unidentified person called one of their suppliers on Nov. 26 asking for financial solicitation using Azcona’s name.

This prompted the supplier to verify the caller, and it waa found out that the caller only pretended to be Azcona.

A week later, a utility worker of SRA received a call from their food catering supplier, on Dec. 2, informing her that a Tagalog-speaking person called and introduced himself as Azcona and asked for cash donation.

Azcona clarified that they never solicit, as they have an allocated budget for their programs like disaster response.

He said that they will find ways to locate the persons behind the calls.*
