Enrolment in province still low

The enrolment in the province remains low this school year as of September 2, data from the Department of Education Division of Negros Occidental showed.

Ian Arnold Arnaez, spokesperson of the division on Monday, cited that enrolment in schools under their jurisdiction showed is at 312, 639 compared to the 325, 000 students last school year.

Arnaez said that all school divisions in the country are suffering from low enrolment rates.

He attributed the low enrolment rates to some students especially those in the Kindergarten are underaged, migration of parents to other places, and effective family planning methods.

Last school year, basic education enrolment in both public and private schools in Bacolod City and the rest of Negros Occidental decreased by 5 to 16 percent.* (EYA)
