La Castellana gets CHED approval to operate Colegio de La Castellana

June 27, 2024

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted the Municipality of La Castellana an authority to operate a local college, the Colegio de La Castellana, starting the academic year 2024-2025.

On Thursday, the school administration started accepting registration for the entrance examination of aspiring first-year students on July 5 and 6.

Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, a licensed professional teacher herself, said education is part of her advocacy along with her father, Vice Mayor Alberto Nicor Jr., who dreamed of establishing a college run by the local government when he was still the mayor.

“Colegio de La Castellana will produce an empowered professional in every family. That’s our tagline,” the mayor said, adding that students from adjacent localities can also enroll in the local college.

Located along Rizal St. in Barangay Robles, Colegio de La Castellana will offer three academic programs, including Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS), Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd), and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSEntrep).

Councilor Patrick Estoya, chairman of the Municipal Council’s committee on education, said on Wednesday that the CHED Regional Office-6 report on the result of preliminary assessment (RRPA) No. 3, series of 2024 gave authority to offer the BSIS, while the BECEd and BSEntrep were also “approved in principle and waiting for the official issuance of (the) RRPA.”

“We are now realizing the former mayor’s dream of having a professional in every family. Thank you, Mayor (Nicor-Mangilimutan), for the enthusiasm in really pushing the establishment of the college,” said Estoya, who led the technical working group for the creation of Colegio de La Castellana.* (Nanette Guadalquiver)
