Relocation of residents living within 4-km danger zone being studied

Residents of Barangays Biak-na-Bato and Cabagnaan that are living inside the four-kilometer permanent danger zone from Kanlaon Volcano in La Castellana will definitely be relocated.

John de Asis, municipal DRRMO head said on Monday that there are still 39 families or 116 individuals inside the town’s evacuation centers as of June 24.

The municipal government is studying the possibility of relocating the families in an area near their homes in Barangay Biak-na-Bato and Cabagnaan but away from the PDZ, he added.

Earlier, the municipal government evacuated about 4,000 residents leaving inside the PDZ when Kanlaon erupted on June 3.

“It may take a longer time to relocate them,” de Asis added.

On Sunday, La Castellana Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan said the municipal government is not capable of relocating the residents from the 4-km danger zone.

She said the town needs the assistance of the national government in the relocation efforts.*
