6 teams vie for Abanse Negrense – NBTC Basketball League LQT Championship

The Abanse Negrense – NBTC Basketball League Local Qualifying Tournament is definitely heating up with six teams vying for the championship tilt on February 3, 2024 (Saturday) at the Montalbo Covered Court in Bacolod City.

Following the end of the eliminations and semi-final rounds in the three clusters, Silay City advanced to the finals after defeating Murcia Open Bible Christian Academy, Inc. (MOBCA – Murcia) with a score of 79 – 75 in the semis. The City of Talisay is also a step closer to the Championship after beating the City of Escalante with a score of 78 – 55.

MOBCA – Murcia and Escalante City are bound for the Battle for Third game this Saturday, while Silay City is set to faceoff with Talisay City for the championship title.

For the Central Negros Cluster, STI West Negros University (STIWNU/NZANE) capped off a dominant run with a 73 – 65 victory over Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) during the semis on Sunday and claimed their spot in the finals this week. Davies Paint/El Tzino also came out firing with a 4-point lead against Red Owl (Prestige034Focal) after ending the final quarter with a score of 88 – 84.

STIWNU is gearing up to battle against Davies Paint/El Tzino in the Central Negros Cluster Finals, and BTTHS needs to beat Prestige034Focal for the Battle for Third round.

Apart from the North and Central Negros Clusters, the South Negros teams also heated up the basketball court with exciting games during Sunday’s semi-final games. The Municipality of Valladolid pulled off a victory against Sipalay City after taking a 13-point lead with a final score of 82 – 69.

The Municipality of Pontevedra also came out strong with a home-court advantage against La Carlota City with a score of 85 – 81. As for the finals, Valladolid is vying against Pontevedra for the championship title, while Sipalay City and La Carlota City are facing each other for the Battle of Third playoff.

As for the results of the end of eliminations in the Central and South Negros clusters on Saturday, Red Owl 10 won against La Consolacion College – Bacolod (LCC-B) with a 6-point lead ending the fourth quarter with a score of 71 – 65. Unfortunately, the team failed to advance to the finals following a defeat against Prestige034Focal with a score of 70 – 72.

Moreover, STIWNU/NZANE made another unbeaten run against the Spartans after scoring 75 points versus the latter’s 56 points. BTTHS also defied the odds by outscoring Bata National High School (BNHS) Lions with a score of 73 – 48, while RGC Stingers overcame BEBE 2025 with a 14-point lead and ending the game with a score of 57 – 43.

For the South Negros Cluster, Kabankalan City Team A fell behind with a 9-point deficit against Pontevedra with a score of 62 – 71. Sipalay City, on the other hand, emerged as a victor after tallying 95 points against Kabankalan Team B’s 80 points.

La Carlota City pulled away from La Castellana with a 54-point lead in the fourth quarter with a final score of 121 – 67, while Hinigaran took the lead with 83 points against Ilog’s 78 points.

Meanwhile, six teams from the North, Central, and South Negros Clusters are set to go for a kill as they deal with their rivals in the final blow of the ABANSE NEGRENSE – NBTC Basketball League Local Qualifying Championship on February 3, Saturday. The teams include the Cities of Silay and Talisay from the North, STIWNU/NZANE and Prestige034Focal from the Central Cluster, and the Municipalities of Valladolid and Pontevedra representing the South Negros Cluster.

So, who will emerge as the Champions for the Central, North, and South Negros Clusters and represent the Province of Negros Occidental in the upcoming Visayas Regional Championship this February?
