PrimeWater Bacolod undertaking repair of 600 pipeline leaks, putting new 23-km lines

Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez told officials of the Bacolod City Water District- Primewater that supply in Bacolod should be 24/7″.

Benitez demanded specific actions from Primewater to address the lack of 24/7 water supply.

“The city is facing a 20 million liters per day (MLD) supply shortage,” he said.

The mayor added only half of Bacolod’s households are connected to the water system of BACIWA.

During the water summit Friday, a committment to provide improved water services in Bacolod in the next six months was made.

Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. assured Benitez that the supply of 15 MLD from the Murcia side, while 5 MLD more will come from spring water in Barangay Alangilan.

The city government’s help was asked to hasten the release of permits and clearances so it could be possible in two to three months.

Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas and Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares, who attended the summit, assured Benitez of their support in providing water from their areas to help Bacolod.

Ernie Delco, PrimeWater technical audit group head, said his firm has allotted P36 million in the next six months and more than P80 million in the second half of 2024 to improve water services in Bacolod.

PrimeWater is undertaking the massive repair of 600 pipeline leaks in 30 days to save a huge volume of water in Bacolod, and putting in new pipelines covering 23 kilometers, Delco said.

Mona Dia Jardin, BACIWA general manager, said from just 60,000 consumers, they now have 69,000 clients.

Baciwa-Primewater is providing 75 MLD from groundwater through 60 wells.

Primewater is in the third year of its joint venture with local water distributor Bacolod City Water District aimed at upgrading the pipe system of BACIWA and supplying the city with potable water round the clock.* (EYAdiong)
