January 15, 2024

Dengue cases in Western Visayas went down by 45 percent in 2023, records of the Department of Health Region 6 shows.

Data ending December 31, 2023 shows that dengue cases in the region reached 8,517 cases, 15,000 cases less than the cases recorded in 2022.

The province of Aklan topped the list with the most number of cases at 33, Capiz – 29, and Guimaras – 9 cases.

A total of 17 barangays in the region were shown to have clustering of dengue cases.

Despite the reduction, the Department of Health (DOH), in its advisories, is urging the public to continue measures against mosquito breeding sites, stressing that dengue is fatal.* (EYA)
