UNBL Update: SJI Wallops USLS in Aspirants Cup

St. John’s Institute (SJI) held back University of St. La Salle (USLS), 59-47, in Group B of the 2nd United Negros Basketball League (UNBL) Aspirants Basketball Cup played last Saturday at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center.

SJI had a 48-36 lead going to the 4th quarter, but had some anxious moments as USLS cut the deficit to 50-46. But Ryton Celis bailed out SJI connecting on 3 straight triples to seal the 3rd win for SJI.

Bata National High School (BNHS) barged into the win column against Alangilan National High School (ANHS).

Celis finished with 29 points, Lorenzo Joaquin Lacson added 11, Carlos Miguel Reonal shot 9 and Nathaniel Fajardo had 6 points.

USLS was led John Paul Cabayao 16 points, Gian Alexis Vasquez 9, John Carl Lamonte 7, Reagan Charles Jamero 6 points.

Acster Player of the Game Paul Adrian Barcelona fired 28 points to spearhead Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) to a 92-60 victory against St. Joseph School-La Salle (SJS-LS).

BTTHS also registered its 3rd win in as many outings also got contribution from Tobby Matthew Orbista with 17 points, Francis Lamasan shot 13, Seth Guarino 12, Jameer Angelo Gapusan 10 points.

Luiz Andrei Lirazan paced SJS-LS with 27 points, Andrey Antonio Castro produced 11 and Jhalil Sultan with 6 points.

Marco Gabriel Claro led BNHS with 20 points backstopped by Kyle Medel and Joven Jamero 12 points apiece, Johnmar Ramos and Jomar Jadulos nailed 8 points apiece,

ANHS was led by Neljohn Veloso with 13 points, Jimark Berte had 8 markers.

Trinity Christian School (TCS) and Colegio De San Agustin Bacolod (CSAB)continue to lead Bracket A registering their 3rd straight victory.

TCS triumphed over La Consolacion College-Bacolod (LCC-B) 51-34.

John Joseph Gerardo bannered TCS with 15 points, Andrei Lance Mallen supplied 10, Klyde Dominic Malaga dropped 9, Theo Ernest Roa delivered 6 points.

LCC-B was led by Christian Aniban 17, Paul Henry Peñaflorida scored 9 and Mackie Abdon with 4 points.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) Micko John Villarosa sizzled for 35 pts but it was not enough as the balance offense of CSAB carried them to victory 77-59.

Jerry Binguan III paced CSAB with 8, Ace Cortejo added 7, Khian Gawan John Dave Parohinog, Lance Andrew Arrey, Alexander Atiles III and Raishem Neil Roxas each delivered 6 markers. Rodolfo ReCaido and Alexander Nathaniel Siasor added 7 points for UNO-R.

Colegio De Santa Ana de Victorias improved to 2-1 with a emphatic victory against Bacolod City National High School (BCNHS), 72-47.

CSAB was spearheaded by Edgian Javellana with 18 pts. Rhojun Tenacio nailed 11 pts., John Tracy Dalumpines and Zaijan Sarmiento produced 7 pts. apiece.

John Cagalgal paced BCNHS with 10, Cyrel Italia shot 7, Zai Jhan Debide scored points and Andrei Tornilla with 5 points.* (CMG, Sr./ST)
