Mayors to decide if elected barangay officials will be subjected to drug tests

It will be up to the mayors if they will subject the newly-elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in their jurisdiction to a drug test, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said.

“The mayors will decide if there’s a need for a drug test,” Lacson said, adding that “if they do that they should also include themselves.”

Last week, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that the newly-proclaimed winners of the recent BSKE must undergo a drug test before assuming office.

“In line with our campaign against illegal drugs, I strongly recommend for all barangay and SK officials to undergo a drug test and to come clean before they assume office,” the Ilolo City mayor said in a statement.* (EYAdiong)
