Gov. Lacson wants brgy. lupons trained

November 3, 2023

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the provincial government is willing to train the Lupong Tagapamayapa members of the barangays in the province.

While it is the responsibility of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to train newly-elected barangay officials, Lacson said, “we want to focus on the Lupon.”

The Lupon Tagapamayapa is a system created by the government in order to solve disputes within the barangay level before going into court.

These disputes are usually created between relatives within the barangay. It is chaired by the barangay captain with 10 to 20 members.

“They have a huge responsibility in the barangays. It is better that conflicts are resolved at their level to prevent further conflicts and will not reach the courts,” the governor pointed out.* (EYA)
