‘Poll winners must fulfill promises, unlucky bets can still serve as private citizens’

October 30, 2023

Winners in today’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election (BSKE) must fulfill their promises.

At the same time, those who did not make it must respect the decision of the voters and they can still serve the public as private citizens.

These were the common advice of Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson, La Castellana Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan and Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo in separate interviews with NDB.

Tongson said that those who got elected or reelected must “always remember their commitment because the people will look for such.”

“Those who were not lucky must always remember that one does not need to be elected as a barangay official to serve his community,” the Himamaylan mayor added.

He expressed gratitude to Himamaylanons for supporting the efforts in maintaining peace and order, adding that last night’s shooting incident in Brgy. Carabalan was not related to the election.

Nicor-Mangilimutan, meanwhile also said she is happy the BSKE in La Castellana is generally peaceful.

Garcia-Yulo, on her part also said that other than some “exhibitions” by supporters of certain political quarters, the political exercises today were peaceful and orderly.* (Arman P. Toga)
