Cadiz bags 4 CMCI awards; Chosen to avail DTI grants

October 19, 2023

Cadiz City recently bagged four major awards in the prestigious Competitive Cities and Municipalities Index (CMCI) 2023 by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

It was also chosen as one among the four cities in Western Visayas to avail of grants via DTI’s “Lungsod Lunsad” Program (LLP).

Nationwide, Cadiz ranked No. 7 among the the “Most Improved Component Cities” this year.

However, in the regional level, CMCI Region 6 hailed Cadiz as:
* Rank No. 1 – Most Improved Component City.
* Rank No. 1- Most Competitive City- Government Efficiency Category
* Rank No. 2 Most Competitive City – Innovation Category

On the other hand, Cadiz, alongside Bacolod City, Victorias City and Iloilo City, was also named as one among the qualified recepients for grants via newly-launched DTI’s “Lungsos Lunsad”.

Lungsod Lunsad is part of DTI’s recent good agenda aimed at helping creative sectors, including “obedient” and “innovative” local government units (LGUs) in the country.

Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr. was elated yet humbled by the package of DTI citations and grant.

“This is ‘greatness’ beyond expect. Nonetheless, these citations and grant mirror of what is Cadiz City today – leading, shining in northern Negros Occidental,” Escalante enunciated.

Thus, he thanked all the Cadizenos, and his co-officials for always “nuturing unity” that propelled Cadiz to having now a “Tiger Economy” in north Negros.

Cadiz’s “11-Minute” mantra in processing application and renewal of business permits helped much in copping the awards and grants from DTI.

This “11-Minute” mantra, Escalante underscored, is part of Cadiz’s adherence to Republic Act 11032 or Ease of Doing Business Act of 2018 implemented during the Duterte administration.

Investors and entrepreneurs exploring Cadiz really”like and love” this kind of government service mantra.

Explained by Mayor Escalante: “11-Minute” refers to his standing order for the City Treasurer’s Office, Permits and Licensing, among other offices concerned that within 11 minutes only, application for or renewal of business permits must be done.

Meanwhile, Cadiz, Escalante added, recently changed its investment and tourism tagline to “Cadiz City: Land of Splendid Opportunities.”

“We still have lots to offer to our dear investors – from land to sea – because Cadiz is really conducive to business expansion, among other well-meaning economic or investment opportunities,” the mayor said.

Hence, he’s hoping that the recent awards and grants that Cadiz recieved will further “compel” them to do more today and tomorrow for Cadiznons’ sake.*
