Province prepares for new normal rules for hog raising

August 23, 2023

The Negros Occidental provincial government is formulating guidelines under the “new normal” for hog raising as part of efforts to prevent a renewed upsurge of swine diseases, Dr. Placida Lemana, acting provincial agriculturist, said.

This comes amidst reports that the province had no hog death in the past 10 days.

Lemana said hog deaths from various swine diseases remained at 17,801 or 9.83 percent of the total hog population.
She said that her office will conduct a random sampling of pigs to ensure that there is already no swine disease in a certain area and will immediately repopulate.

The sampling will first be conducted in the 4th district as it was the most affected area, to be followed by the 3rd, 5th and 6th district, Lemana said.* (Eugene Adiong)
