Zubiri on NIR, Bacolod redistricting

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said the committee report for the re-establishment of the Negros Island Region (NIR) will be out before Congress takes a break in October.

In an interview with Bacolod newsmen yesterday afternoon at the Senate, Zubiri also said that while he is supporting the NIR initiative, he will also support the redistricting of Bacolod City.

“I don’t think there would be any opposition to NIR in the Senate,” he said.

“The NIR report is ready to be presented at the plenary and hopefully will be done before the October break,” Zubiri said.

In assuring his support also to the move to divide Bacolod into two congressional districts, he said that “anything that will be good for Bacolod and Negros Occidental I will support 1,000 percent.”* (APT)
