Egay-affected Negrenses rise to 32,670

Heavy rains and flash floods caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Egay affected 32,670 individuals or 8,540 families in Negros Occidental.

It also damaged 167 houses, according to the data from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) as of 11 a.m. today, July 26.

The data also showed that Bago City reported damage to agriculture worth P3,894,808.

Chiqui Gonzales, PSWDO officer, said 12 of the 31 LGUs in the province have been affected by the monsoon rains and flooding.

A total of 125 barangays in the province were also affected.

The coastal town of Valladolid was the most affected locality with 17,510 individuals in its 14 barangays, while neighboring San Enrique town had 3,574 affected individuals in its nine villages.

The mountain municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto had 1,075 in five barangays, Sipalay City- 893 (5); Bago City- 360 (10); Pontevedra- 258 (2); Silay City- 254 (3); Cauayan- 147 (1) and Cadiz City- 88 (2); Pulupandan- 70 (3); Sagay City -12 (2) and La Castellana- six (1).

Gonzales said their office distributed 1,600 food packs augmented by thei respective LGUs.

Our priority are those evacuees staying in evacuation sites, she said.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental and the capital city of Bacolod continued to suspend work in their offices today.

Other LGUs that declared suspension of work in government offices and classes were Murcia, EV Magalona, Kabankalan City, Silay City, Talisay City, Cadiz City, Himamaylan City and Victorias City.

Travel between Bacolod City and Iloilo City resumed with the two fast craft operators announcing their resumption of operations.* (EYAdiong)
