In San Enrique, NegOcc: 99% of the town’s pig population perished due to hog disease
Hog cholera claimed the lives of 99.22 percent of the pig population in the Municipality of San Enrique, Negros Occidental, a report from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) report showed.
The PVO reported that as of Sunday, June 11, hog deaths reached 2,671 of its 2,692 pig population, affecting 508 hog raisers in 10 barangays of San Enrique.
Only 21 pigs are surviving the current situation, with hog cholera so far the confirmed disease hitting the town.
In the whole of Negros Occidental, data also showed that hog deaths have affected 126 barangays in 16 local government units in the province as of Sunday, June 11.
A total of 12,139 pigs died or 9.26 percent of the total hog population of the province.
The PVO also reported that hog deaths already affected 2,294 hog raisers whose losses reached P136,311,800.
The spate of hog deaths were attributed by the PVO to hog cholera.
Negros Occidental has confirmed cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Bacolod and Victorias cities, and in Pulupandan.* (EYA)
