VMC donates books, rehabilitates day care center
Victorias Milling Company (VMC) recently conducted roof and ceiling repairs of the Canetown Day Care Center and donated books to invigorate the learning of children in their community.
VMC President Linley Retirado said this is part of their commitment to provide the necessary assistance to improve the education system, particularly among their stakeholders. The Canetown Day Care Center hosts 50 students currently.
“Foundation is key and we believe that by providing our children better infrastructure, proper teaching environment, we facilitate better learning as well,” Riterado said.
This, he added is part of VMC’s support to the challenge issued by 3rd District Rep. Francisco Benitez who recently came out with facts about the dismal literary and numeracy performance rates that befall our educational system.
“We must do our share to improve learning in our community and repairing learning facilities is just the first task,” Retirado said.
The other is donating learning materials thus, we donated books because while today’s generation is receptive to digital learning, we want to inculcate the love for books as there are still practical advantages to reading books if we want to improve our literacy rate, he added.
Retirado said VMC is hopeful that this collaboration with the local community, the local government units and the Department of Education will carry on in the years to come as everyone’s effort is vital to the learning growth of our children.*
