8 teams to vie for UNBL 25U title

The United Negros Basketball League (UNBL) 25 Under Basketball Tournament 2023 will commence on Friday, April 22 at the Luis T. Ong Sports Pavillon or the St. John’s Institute (SJI) Ayala Gym.

Eight teams teams with players born on 1998 and later will be vying for the inaugural title.

The participating teams are Royal Star Trading, JSY Transport, University of St. La Salle, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletes, Davies Paint Philippines, Visayan Maritime Academy, KDR Perfecto, and Strived Sportswear /Colegio De San Agustin-Bacolod.

A short opening ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m. and to be followed by a quadruple header starting at 1 p.m.

The tournament format will be a single round robin with the top 4 teams advancing to the playoff round.

Games will be played every Saturdays and Sundays. The main venue is the Tay Tung High School gym, with some games to be played at the SJI Ayala Gym.

This is the 2nd tournament sponsored by the UNBL this year after the successful staging of the UNBL Aspirants Basketball Cup which drew 16 teams held last February and March, 2023. For more updates you can check out the UNBL facebook page.* (Cyrus M. Garde)
