March 21, 2023

The Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) Internal Affairs Service (IAS) and the National Police Commission will investigate the recent anti-illegal gambling raid in Ilog town that resulted in the death of one person.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) spokesperson, Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo said Ilog Police Chief, Capt. Thurslie Castillo will be placed on motu propio case investigation.

Catalogo said the investigation by PRO-6 IAS and NAPOLCON is a standard operating procedure, although the probe will focus what really happened during the raid.

It can be recalled that Castillo opened fire at the suspects after they stabbed him multiple times.

The suspects, identified as Abundio Redoble, 35 years old; John Mark, 25 years old; Samson Tagapan, 63 years old; and a 16-year-old boy whom they have requested not be identified.

The elder Redoble was killed while the three suspects together with Castillo were rushed to the hospital.

According to Ilog police, they conducted the operation after receiving reports that about 30 individuals were allegedly playing “cara y cruz” or “tumbo” in Barangay Dancalan around 9 p.m.

In the middle of the raid’s scuffle, Castillo was able to get a hold of some suspects. However, the Redoble brothers and Tagapan retaliated and stabbed the police chief.

Castillo, in response, drew out his service firearm and shot the suspects.* (W/DGB)
