Security tightened at Prov’l Capitol

March 6, 2023

The Safety and Security Division (SSD) is taking measures to strengthen the security at the Provincial Capitol facilities in Bacolod City.

Renelo Lastierre, SSD chief, told media that he called an emergency meeting over the weekend after hearing about the bloody attack on Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo on Saturday.

Lastierre said they had not asked for additional security personnel, regular watchmen or security guards.

“In my briefing this morning during the regular flag raising ceremonies, I reminded all personnel under my office to strictly implement the security measures already in place at the Capitol,” he said.

Among these measures are the banning of the carrying of firearms inside the Capitol premises even if they are from the police and military, he pointed out.

“They should leave it in their vehicles or their companions,” Lastierre said.

He added that his office has also a list of all contact numbers of government security agencies as well as full coordination with the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOCCPO) and the intelligence units.

We are tightening the security at the Capitol without making it an overkill,” Lastierre said.* (Eugene Y. Adiong)
