Occidental PNP closely watching borders with Oriental

March 6, 2023

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is closely monitoring the province’s borders with Negros Oriental as manhunt operations continue against other suspects in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and eight other civilians.

NOCPPO spokesperson, Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo told newsmen that after receiving information on the incident in Pamplona, Negros Orientalon on Saturday, the stations in the southern part of the Occidental were immediately ordered to establish checkpoints.

As of today, Catalogo said the checkpoints remain and every motorist is being checked for his identification before he is allowed to enter the province.

NOCPPO’s Provincial Mobile Force Company also joined the manhunt by serving as a blocking force and in patrolling far flung areas bordering Negros Oriental to prevent the suspects from escaping.

“We are closely coordinating with other police and law enfocement units involved in the manhunt operations against the late governor’s killers,” Catalogo said.

Alert Local Police

Meanwhile, in response to the growing number of attacks against local chief executives across the country, Catalogo said right after the attack against Degamo, NOCPPO alerted the chiefs of police in the province to contact their respective local chief executives and conduct threat assessments.

So far, Catalogo said, the response of local chief executives in the province say they currently do not see any serious threats to their security, although some have acknowledged receiving threats in the past.

“We are reminding our local chief executives not to be complacent,” Catalogo said.

He further advised local chief executives to get in touch with their police chiefs and review their security assessments.* (DGB)
