Guv shuns security beef up
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said today that he does not need additional security personnel even as the Philippine National Police (PNP) has offered to augment his security detail.
“As long as you are aware of the situation and the areas you go to, I will always be guided by that,” Lacson said.
The governor said that the last time he met with slain Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo the latter did not mention about threats to his life as the talks were focused on the Negros Island Region (NIR).
“But, I noticed that he has a lot of security,” he said.
“We lost a friend in Gov. Degamo. He may have misgivings about the NIR but I was confident that at the end of the day he would not object to the creation of a new region,” he also said.
Lacson called Negrenses to “join in mourning together with the family of Gov. Degamo.”
“We all wish justice will be served not only to Gov. Degamo but also to the other civilians whose lives were also taken from that carnage,” he said.
He added that he will visit the remains of Degamo anytime this week.* (EYA)
