January 27, 2023

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante is calling on revelers at the Dinagsa Festival on Sunday, January 29 to only use “water- based paints” in smearing fellow revelers and visitors which is part of the fun.

Escalante said they have decided to ban the use of enamel paints because it is harder to take off.

It is also banned to use a water gun during the festivities on Sunday, during which revelers smear each other with paint dubbed as “Lamhitanay sa Dalan” , also one of the highlights of the Dinagsa Festival.

While there is no penalty for violators to the “use water-based paint only rule”, roving city government personnel will confiscate the paints.

“Strictly no water guns and enamel paints during the Dinagsa Festival,” a public announcement being spread by City Hall and festival organizers meanwhile states.

Mayor Escalante is also reminding both residents and guests to the festival to observe minimum health protocols.

Dinagsa Festival makes a comeback in Cadiz this year after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the highlights on Sunday, Jan. 29.* (EYA)
