Who will rise as Gov. Cup 5X5 Basketball Tourney ultimate champion?
The ultimate question is finally out as the Governor’s Cup 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament (A Tribute to Dodong Bascon’s Contributions to Negros Basketball) concludes on December 10, Saturday. So, which team will emerge victorious and nab the championship title?
Held at the STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) Gymnasium, two of the strongest teams from the Bracket A and B classifications will vie for the top spot. These two teams are Dumaguete City from Bracket A and the STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) from Bracket B.
The Dumaguete City and the STI-WNU teams are both unscathed from the eliminations. So, they will face off on the basketball court for the best 21-under team in the Province of Negros Occidental. Bracket B’s Bacolod City ABB will play against E.B. Magalona from Bracket A for the Battle for the Third round.
Meanwhile, cash prizes and trophies await the 5-on-5 basketball tournament winners – Champion, First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up, and the Mythical Five, which includes the Most Valuable Player Award. Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson, Provincial Sports Office Head Mr. Anthony Carlo Agustin, and the Bascon Family will lead the awarding ceremony.
The Governor’s Cup 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament is also a tribute to the late Mr. Oscar “Dodong” Bascon for his incomparable contributions to the development and promotion of basketball all over the province.
The tournament is part of the ABANSE NEGRENSE Grassroots Sports Development Programs spearheaded by Gov. Bong Lacson.
Such programs are established to identify and develop talents, as well as raise awareness and participation in sports and recreational activities amongst the Negrense youth. Our sports-advocate governor believes sports can help positively channel the interests of the youth, which is greatly beneficial for the community. And for our province to be recognized as a sporting venue on the regional, national and global maps, it’s essential to develop and invest in sports development initiatives at the grassroots level.* (PSO)
