Dumaguete City, STI-WNU vying for Gov. Cup 5X5 basketball tourney championship
The championship round of the Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament (A Tribute to Dodong Bascon’s Contribution to Negros Basketball) is just around the corner. And Dumaguete City and STI-West Negros University (STI-WNU) are the two teams that will vie for the championship title on December 10, 2022, Saturday at the STI-WNU Gymnasium at 1 PM.
Before the championship battle, six teams competed against each other during the last round of the tournament’s elimination on December 3 (Saturday). E.B. Magalona dethroned Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B) with only a two-point lead, resulting in an 81-79 scoresheet.
La Carlota City, on the other hand, won against Silay City as the latter was declared a Loss by Forfeiture. The last two teams – Cadiz City and Escalante City – were also declared Loss by Forfeiture at the final elimination games.
On December 4, Sunday, the semi-final round started with Dumaguete City playing against Bacolod City ABB. The Negros Oriental-hailed team crushed the City of Bacolod with a 27-point lead resulting to a final score of 99 against Bacolod’s 72 points. The STI-WNU team also won against E.B. Magalona with a score of 95-74.
Meanwhile, the Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament (A Tribute to Dodong Bascon’s Contribution to Negros Basketball) will finally conclude on December 10, Saturday at 1 PM at the STI-WNU Gym. The Battle for Third game will be between Bacolod City ABB and E.B. Magalona. And Dumaguete City will face off against STI-WNU for the championship title.
The Governor’s Cup 5X5 Basketball Tournament is part of Governor Eugenio V. Lacson’s ABANSE NEGRENSE Grassroots Sports Development Programs. Gov.
