La Carlota swimmers rule PSO’s swimming tourney south elims

The ABANSE NEGRENSE Swimming Tournament 2022 (South Elimination) officially opened in Bago City on November 19, Saturday. Young swimmers from the La Carlota City team bagged the most wins in the tournament.

Out of the 36 categories, La Carlota City ranked first in thirteen events. These were Boys 10 and Under 200 LC (Long Course) Meter Individual Medley, Girls 11-12 200 LC Meter Individual Medley, Boys 13-15 200 LC Meter Individual Medley, Girls 11-12 100 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys 13-15 100 LC Meter Freestyle, Girls 11-12 100 LC Meter Breaststroke, Girls 11-12 200 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys 13-15 200 LC Meter Freestyle, Girls 11-12 100 LC Meter Backstroke, Boys 13-15 100 LC Meter Backstroke, Boys 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Butterfly, Girls 11-12 100 LC Meter Butterfly, and Boys 13-15 100 LC Meter Butterfly.

Following the winning record of La Carlota City was Kabankalan City, which amassed a total of nine first-place victories in these categories: Girls 13-15 200 LC (Long Course) Meter Individual Medley, Boys 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Freestyle, Girls 13-15 100 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Breaststroke, Boys 10 and Under 100 LC Meter Freestyle, Girls 13-15 200 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Backstroke, Girls 13-15 100 LC Meter Backstroke, Girls 13-15 100 LC Meter Backstroke, and Girls 13-15 100 LC Meter Butterfly.

Bago City, on the other hand, ranked first in eight categories – Boys 11-12 200 LC (Long Course) Meter Individual Medley, Boys 11-12 100 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys 11-12 100 LC Meter Breaststroke, Boys 13-15 100 LC Meter Breaststroke, Girls 13-15 100 LC Meter Breaststroke, Boys 11-12 200 LC Meter Freestyle, Boys 11-12 100 LC Meter Backstroke, and Boys 11-12 100 LC Meter Butterfly.

Moreover, Bacolod City earned six first-place wins. These categories were the Girls 10 and Under 200 LC (Long Course) Meter Individual Medley, Girls 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Freestyle, Girls 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Breaststroke, Girls 10 and Under 100 LC Meter Freestyle, Girls 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Backstroke, and Girls 10 and Under 50 LC Meter Butterfly.

After the South Elimination, the ABANSE NEGRENSE Swimming Tournament 2022 will proceed with its North Elimination on November 30 in Victorias City. Winning swimmers from the North and the South districts’ eliminations will compete in the Provincial Championships on December 8 in Bago City.

Meanwhile, this swimming tournament is part of the ABANSE NEGRENSE Grassroots Sports Development Programs spearheaded by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson in cooperation with the Provincial Sports Office. Through these initiatives, Gov. Bong Lacson hopes to promote sports amongst the local youth while discovering potential talents that could flourish as professional athletes and represent the Province of Negros Occidental in regional, national and international competitions.* (PSO)
