October 19, 2022

Who said you can’t make the most out of the home-court advantage? Silay City had it when the team nabbed four (4) gold and two (2) bronze medals at the recently concluded ABANSE NEGRENSE’s Boxing at the Park on Sunday, Oct. 16.

The city of Silay was indeed the home of some of the best and most promising young boxers in the province of Negros Occidental. Proof of that was the team’s recent gold medal victories in four (4) weight divisions – 30 kgs., 32 kgs., 34 kgs., and 52 kgs. – while the team’s bronze was in 26 kgs. and 36 kgs.

The bronze medalist boxers were Justin Jamero and Kyle Villa. Matthew Ayuma, John Mikhail Arrellano, John Michael Luzanes, and Jerome Lopez were the gold medalists of Silay City.

Meanwhile, ABANSE NEGRENSE’s Boxing at the Park is part of the grassroots sports development programs initiated by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson in partnership with Provincial Sports Office (PSO) Head Mr. Anthony Carlo Agustin.

Silay City hosted the recent Boxing at the Park Tournament. The PSO, however, is preparing for more boxing tournaments, and the next scheduled competition is the Governor’s Cup Provincial Boxing Tournament this November.* (PSO)
