Governor’s Cup 5-on-5 hoop tourney slated on Nov.12

Following the success of the Governor’s Cup Inter-LGU 3X3 Basketball Tournament Finals on Saturday, the Provincial Sports Office (PSO) of Negros Occidental is gearing up for more exciting ballgames as it officially announces the upcoming Governor’s Cup 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament (A Tribute to Dodong Bascon’s Contributions to Negros Basketball) on Nov. 12, 2022, in Talisay City.

The tournament is in honor of the late Oscar “Dodong” Bascon for his contributions as one of the pillars of basketball in the province of Negros. It is open to all bona fide and 21-under (born 2001) college students of Negros Occidental.

Registration for this tournament is free. However, it will be on a “first-come, first-served” basis since the PSO has limited the number of participants to 8 teams.

Big cash prizes and trophies await the winning teams. Special recognitions and prizes will also be awarded to the Most Valuable Player and the Mythical Five, the best players in each of the positions in basketball.

The tournament is a part of the ABANSE NEGRENSE sports programs, and it is in line with Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson’s directive to promote grassroots sports development among our local youth.* (PSO)
