Prov’l Sports Office announces upcoming Inter-LGU tourneys

It’s another fun and exciting weekend for all sports enthusiasts in Negros Occidental as the Provincial Sports Office (PSO) announces more Inter-LGU tournaments from Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2022.

The line-up of events includes ABANSE NEGRENSE’s Children with Disabilities Athletics Day, Governor’s Cup Inter-LGU 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament (South Bracket B Eliminations), Governor’s Cup Football Championships (North, Central, and South Qualifying) and ABANSE NEGRENSE’s Boxing at the Park Eliminations.

Spearheaded by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson and PSO Head Mr. Anthony Carlo Agustin, the PSO is holding a special athletics activity dedicated to children with disabilities on Sept. 30 at 8 am in Canetown, Brgy. 19-A, Victorias City. This event is in partnership with ABANSE NEGRENSE Sports Programs.

It will be participated by the cities of Cadiz and Victorias, and the municipality of Manapla. Categories include aged 15 and below (boys and girls) and aged 16 and above (boys and girls). The participants are also representing 4 categories of disability – the intellectually disabled, partially blind, totally blind and hearing-impaired.

In addition, PSO’s and ABANSE NEGRENSE’s Governor’s Cup Inter-LGU 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament will continue its South Bracket B Eliminations on Oct. 1, Saturday in Binalbagan City. Participating LGUs include Ilog, Himamaylan, Hinigaran, Binalbagan, and Sipalay City. The two categories are 14-under and 17-under, and the top two winning teams from each category will be qualified for the semi-finals.

ABANSE NEGRENSE’s Boxing at the Park will also proceed with its eliminations in Silay City at 1 pm on Oct. 1, Saturday. The event has a total of 10 bouts and representatives from the cities of Bago, Sagay, La Castellana, Silay, Victorias, Himamaylan, Escalante, Bacolod, and La Carlota, as well as the municipalities of Murcia, EB Magalona and Candoni are participating in the tournament.

Lastly, the Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship North Qualifying continues on Oct. 1, Saturday at 8 am in Escalante City. Teams from Cadiz City, Sagay City, San Carlos City, Victorias City, Escalante City, and Club de Los Hermanos de Futbol of Escalante City (CHFC) are competing in the tournament.

For the South and Central Qualifying, it will be held in Bago City on Oct. 2, Sunday at 8 am. The participating teams are Dolphins FC, SSA Universal FC, Tumandok FC, Trinity Christian School FC, Pontevedra, Bago City, WNU, USLS, BCNHS, Talisay City, San Enrique, and Himamaylan City. Categories include 9-aside with offside for boys aged 12-under and 11-aside with offside for boys aged 17-under.

The Governor’s Cup Football Championships and other PSO-organized tournaments are among the major in-person sports events and programs of Negros Occidental after more than 2 years into the COVID-19 pandemic. These programs are in line with Gov. Lacson’s directive to concentrate on promoting grassroots sports development and training courses to help improve the abilities of our local athletes, who could potentially represent the province in regional, national, and international competitions in the future.*
