BAMBOO AND TREE PLANTING

Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO)-Negros Occidental led by OIC-PENRO Joan Nathaniel F. Gerangaya together with Chief TSD Catherine Balasa, CDS Chief Rosie Pablico, Provincial NGP Coordinator Cecil Cañada, PENRO Negros Occidental – NGP, CENRO Bago and NNNP personnel joined in the Nationwide Simultaneous Bamboo and Tree Planting Activity conducted at Spur 21 in Brgy. Kumaliskis, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental. About 1,000 indigenous species of narra, almaciga, udling, lauan, to-og and kalumpit were planted by around 150 participants from DILG, DA, PNP, BFP, brgy. officials of Kumaliskis, Bunga, Bagong Silang and Pinowayan, IP Community, Kabalikat, Tau Gamma Phi DSB Chapter and other volunteers. Assistant Regional Director for Special Concerns Ivene Reyes and NGP Personnel also joined and supported the activity. This year’s theme “Buhayin and Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan” aims to address environment-related concerns by reminding the public of their important roles in the care and protection of Mother Earth in accordance to the Local Government Code of 1991 which mandates all LGUs to uphold the people’s rights to a balanced ecology.* (DENR-PENRO text & photos)
