San Carlos Holds 1st Kahingawa Tent & Hammock Festival
The Akyat Outdoors Club in coordination with the San Carlos City Tourism Office successfully held the 1st Kahingawa Tent & Hammock Festival on June 25-26, 2022 at theCalvary Peak, So. Cabagtasan, Brgy. Codcod.
At least 100 outdoor enthusiasts from San Carlos City, Bacolod City, Canlaon City, Municipality of La Castellana and Dumaguete City joined the said event and took a 30 minute to 1 hour hike from the drop off point to Calvary Peak where a 360 degree-view of nature awaits.
Part of the festival was the knowledge sharing on basic ecology, hiking essentials and leave no trace principles facilitated by Danlee Mangao School-based Earth Guard and Kristine Fria of LC Outdoors who also emphasized the importance of such topics especially to the beginners.
It also highlighted the planting of 200 Ulayan seedlings on the part of Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park adjacent to the camp site on the second day which also culminated said festival.
Feliciano Masaba, one of the event organizers and member of the Akyat Outdoors Club said the festival aimed at not only establishing camaraderie and enjoying the nature but also discussing environmental concerns; bringing participants closer to the locals; informing and reminding them of the various laws, ordinances and essential needs as a way of giving back to nature what it deserves.
Autumn Bacurnay, Tourism Development Area 3, 4 and 5 (upland barangay) Focal Person hoped that said event won’t be the last since the City Tourism Office has already identified more suitable camp sites in San Carlos.
One of the outdoor enthusiasts, 18-year-old Angel Queen Ayag shared that thru the event she was able gain new experience and know the situation of other areas in San Carlos City which she has not yet been to.
She also urged others to join events like the Tent & Hammock Festival since it will not only please oneself, it can also reduce the effects of global warming thru the tree planting activity.
The 1st Kahingawa Tent & Hammock Festival was also made possible thru the efforts of the City Environment Management Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Brgy. Codcod officials and staff, Kanlaon Green Brigade, 79th Infantry Battalion and Philippine National Police.
