PA’s 3ID based in Region 6 backs proposal for mandatory military service

The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) is supporting the proposal to introduce mandatory military service in the country.

3ID spokesperson Capt. Kim Apitong said that presently there is no law nor mandate for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to require military service.

Apitong said that if the proposal is introduced, it could be compared to the current two-year national service requirement in South Korea.

Although they still do not have the complete details, Apitong said mandatory military service will have a good effect for the country.

He pointed out that people will become more prepared if the country faces external threats such as invasion, or in times of disaster more manpower can effectively conduct rescue and relief operations.

Apitong also pointed out other benefits wherein individuals who complete their mandatory military service are more skilled and efficient when they return to civilian life.

The 3ID, also known as Spearhead Division, is based at Camp General Macario Peralta Jr. in Jamindan town in Case province.* (DGB)
