Bacolod Mayor elated as Megaworld plans to infuse more investments in Bacolod
Megaworld Corporation will open (today, April 29) the eight-lane Upper East Avenue which connects its sprawling mixed-use property from Lopez Jaena Street to Circumferential Road.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia thanked the Megaworld management headed by its founder and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Tan for heeding Bacolod City’s call for support to its post-COVID economic recovery program by initially investing P35 billion for its various development initiatives in Bacolod and the province.
“But what is more interesting and exciting for Bacolodnons is the latest news I received today that the real property giant will add fresh investments in the city to ramp up its various construction projects within the Upper East area. Let us, however, let the company announce this big surprise on Friday (today),” the elated city mayor disclosed.
Highlighting the opening of the 1-kilometer thoroughfare (this) afternoon is the official announcement of Megaworld’s additional investment outlay.
Earlier, Megaworld announced a P35 billion portfolio for Negros Occidental, P28 billion of which was for its Upper East project, while P7 billion was for Forbes Hill at Northill Gateway bordering Bacolod and Talisay cities.
“We would like to express our deep appreciation to Mr. Andrew Tan for heeding Bacolod’s call that the company pour in more investments in the city. They have been keeping their commitment of support and we sincerely thank them for that,” Leonardia said.
Mr. Andrew Tan was named Bacolod’s Honorary Mayor in 2020.
In December last year, Megaworld mainly sponsored the installation of Christmas lights of the Bacolod City Government Center to perk up the holiday season.
It also sponsored the Christmas decors of the Bacolod Public Plaza that wowed thousands of city residents.* (Bacolod City PIO)
