Water security plan launched by provincial government

April 7, 2022

The provincial government launched its Provincial Water Security Plan during the Water Summit at the Nature’s Village and Resort in Talisay City today.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the security of the water resources “will depend on us but there is still so much work to be done… All local government units should be onboard,” Lacson said.

Huge investments are needed for such undertaking, he said, so it needs to involve a private-public partnership approach that will provide technical assistance if there are interested private sector investors, he added.

Rep. Francisco Benitez (3rd district) said the provincial government committed to properly manage water supply, “access to water and the use of water all the way from its extraction to replenishment of our watershed as well as the sanitation component.”

“We need to cluster LGUs so that they will have the economy of scale including funding from the green financing for appropriate infrastructure for water management system,” Benitez said.

He added that the event “is the first time to have this. It has been taken for granted which is the access to water.

“We have a depleting forest especially the watershed areas,” he also said.* (EYA)
