Calatrava Town’s Monkey Sanctuary Continues to Lure Local, Domestic Visitors

April 4, 2022

The Monkey Sanctuary “Land of the Monkeys” maintained by the Municipality of Calatrava in northern Negros Occidental continues to lure a good number of local and domestic visitors especially during weekends, with foreigners at times.

Caretakers of the monkey sanctuary located in Sitio Paitan, Barangay Paghumayan in the town told NDB that since the imposition of lower Covid Alert Level, visitors started to come again in throngs especially during weekends.

Also known as the wildlife sanctuary located on a hill of more than 10 hectares, the facility also has halls and venues that can be rented for various occasions such as wedding and reception, birthday, baptism, anniversary celebrations, and the like.

The parking lot has been expanded, and there is a tourist assistance center where the friendly staff are readily available for guests’ inquiries and other concerns.

The site is just 1.5 kilometers of concrete road from the main highway in Calatrava.

Yes, you can feed the monkeys, but ask the caretakers first for what is allowed.

Do not wear your jewelries while there although they are not interested in your cellphone.

They have the tendency to snatch the food in your hand if you try to tease them to come and get it.* (Arman P. Toga photos)
