Urges gov’t to release subsidies to transport, agriculture sectors while urging drivers to bear with gov’t
Manila City Mayor and presidential candidate Francisco Moreno Domagoso, known by his stage name Isko Moreno of the Aksyon Demokratiko party said he will support the revival of the Negros Island Region (NIR) “if Negrenses want it.”

Domagoso who is in Negros Occidental today for a two-day campaign sortie, said he is also supporting the Negros-Panay bridge project he said will further create more economic activities.

In an interview with Bacolod media, Domagoso, at the same time urged the government to hasten the release of subsidies for the transport and agriculture sectors amid the series of bigtime fuel price increases.

The presidential bet whose parents are from Panay arrived at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Silay City this morning. Together with some of his senatorial line up, he also visited Victorias City and several barangays at the city proper of Bacolod.

He also visited Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the city government center.

Domagoso, in the same interview said he is urging the transport sector set to hold a two-day strike on March 21 and 22 to “bear with the government.”

“I know they (drivers) cannot just ask for fare rate hike because the drivers’ families will also be affected. The tricycle, jeepney, bus drivers and operators will suffer but we would like to urge them to just bear with the situation because of the war between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.

“Four days ago the President has ordered for the release of the P2.6 billion subsidy. This is a hard time but we have to give chance to the government, let us cooperate with the government. We will survive as a nation together,” he also said

On the revival of NIR, Domagoso said: “If the people of Negros Occidental and Oriental would like it then I’ll support. The government must have an ear to the people. You have to listen to the people. If that will bring progress and development to Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental in one region then I am 101 percent in support of it as long as it will bring you joy.”

On the Negros-Panay bridge project, he said he will support. “Any road and bridge that connect two islands bring economic development, and the more economic activities the more businesses… Technological marvels realize such undertaking just like the bridge that connects Hongkong and Macau.”

During his visit today at the Bacolod City Government Center to meet Mayor Leonardia, Domagoso was welcomed by a jam-packed crowd.

He is set to visit southern Negros Occidental towns and cities tomorrow.*
