Victorias Milling Company lights up Purisima road network

Victorias Milling Company (VMC) started lighting up the road network in Barangay Purisima in Manapla town with an initial 40 streetlights covering about a kilometer.

The lights on ceremony was held Wednesday night at the grounds of the Candelaria Baptist Church at Hda. Candelaria, Purisima, led by VMC President Minnie Chua, Manapla Vice Mayor Edgar Pagayonan, and other VMC executives and town officials.

Residents of Purisima witnessed the switch on rites with their Barangay Chairman Boy Sombero and other village officials. VMC’s distillery plant is located in the barangay.

Chua said that the 40 street lights comprise Phase 1 of the VMC street lighting project. It initially benefits residents of Hacienda Zones 4, 5, and 6, as well as outsiders passing through the road network at night.

Phase 2 of the project, designed to enhance security and safety in the village, will also light up more portions of the road soon.
Chua said the project is just among VMC undertakings for the barangay and its residents. It also has beautification and other community programs that involve residents’ direct participation.

The VMC president told newsmen that bridges will also be constructed in the barangay since the existing ones are due for replacement.

Chua thanked barangay officials, residents and stakeholders for their efforts in helping realize the project. She added that the sugar and alcohol producing company will shoulder the cost of electricity as well as the maintenance of the street lights.*
